GOD SEEKS WORSHIPPERS, NOT JUST WORSHIP
Robert R. Wagoner
Adopted from a presentation given at Church Music Leadership Conference, Glorietta, N.M.
A summary of the adopted article.
What worship is not:
When people revere someone or something other than Christ or God. Not a pastor, worship leader, accompanist or soloist but God Himself must receive all of our attention and admiration.
When people clamor for power, they value absolute perfection, care more about church programs than church people, and the head of the church Jesus Christ.
Worship is in spirit and in truth:
There are four requirements to worshiping in spirit. They are:
To be born again,
To give adoration and praise to God,
To maintain a repentant and contrite heart toward God and
To focus on God.
So many times during worship people are focused on where to go eat lunch, who’s going to win the ball game, problems in marriage or with the children, or job problems. We are to focus on God not on the pastor, the music worship leader, or the soloist.
To worship in truth one must be willing to confront, confess and abandon their sins. Because God is seeking worshippers and not worship more time needs to be spent in the reading of the scripture and prayer than annoucements and greetings.
