IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL

Isa 46:4 Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am He, I am He who will sustain you,
I have made you and I will carry you.
I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Luke 22:42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."?

2 Cor. 1:3-4 Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.

A MAN AS THE FATHER TELLS THE STORY....
How much can one family lose and not give up on God? How in the world can a man keep his peace with God and lose? Our family, my wife, 1 son and 4 daughters lived in Chicago. God had richly blessed us, but then things began to happen.

First, I had to watch the great Chicago fire as it slowly burns up all my wealth in property. Apartments after apartments. Business buildings after business buildings. The sick awful feeling of seeing my hard work go up in flames. Surely this is enough sorrow for one man in one life for I owned many of the buildings.

Then, our only son, 4 years old, dies from scarlet fever. Now, I have
No name sake
No buddy
No son
Noooooo...

But, it isn?t over yet. My wife wants to take the four girls to Europe and help in a great revival with D.L. Moody and Ira Sankey. A few days after they have left on the great French liner Vile du Havre, I receives a telegram from my wife...?I alone am save:. Our four, yes four daughters, have all died in a ship wreck in 14 minutes. No good-byes, no funerals, no weddings, no grandchildren, nothing.

When we came back from Europe the church removed our membership because they think we must have some great sin in our lives and that's why all the troubles and deaths.

Our son, your daughters, your wealth, all blessings from God whom we love, honor and serve.

And yet, after all the loss, on the way to get my wife, I stood on the bow of the ship as it crosses the places where our daughters drowned, and write this song we shall sing.....

IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL

COULD YOU WRITE THAT?

BUT THEN COULD YOU GO FURTHER, YOU AND YOUR WIFE, SELL EVERYTHING THAT IS LEFT AND SERVE THE LORD CHRIST THE REST OF YOUR LIVES AS MISSIONARIES? WE DID!
