GOD AND HIS SON JESUS - I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE GREAT CHAPTERS IN THE NEW TESTMENT FOR IT TELLS WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR AND THROUGH JESUS, HOW JESUS IS SERVING GOD, AND HOW WE CAN KNOW MORE ABOUT GOD AS WE STUDY JESUS. Hebrews 1:1-14

I. GOD AND HIS SON
A. GOD HAS SPOKEN TO US THROUGH HIS SON,
1 Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the
prophets. [2] But now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son.

John 8:28 So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man on the cross,
then you will realize that I am he and that I do nothing on my own, but I speak
what the Father taught me.
John 12:49 I don't speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me gave me his
own instructions as to what I should say.

B. GOD PROMISED CHRIST AN INHERITANCE
God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance,
Ephes. 1:11 Furthermore, because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God,
for he chose us from the beginning, and all things happen just as he decided
long ago.
Ephes. 1:18, Col. 3:24, Hebrews 9:15, 1 Peter 1:4,

C. GOD USED JESUS TO CREATE ALL THINGS
and through the Son he made the universe and everything in it.
Col. 1:16 Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth.
He made the things we can see and the things we can't see—kings, kingdoms, rulers,
and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him.

II. JESUS THE SON, REFLECTS AND REPRESENTS GOD THE FATHER
A. JESUS REFLECTS GOD'S GLORY
[3] The Son reflects God's own glory, and everything about him represents God exactly.
John 11:40 Jesus responded, "Didn't I tell you that you will see God's glory if you believe?"
John 17:5 And now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.
John 17:24 Father, I want these whom you've given me to be with me, so they can see my
glory. You gave me the glory because you loved me even before the world began!

B. JESUS HAS MIGHTY POWER TO SUSTAIN THE UNIVERSE
He sustains the universe by the mighty power of his command.
1 Cor. 1:24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,
Christ is the mighty power of God and the wonderful wisdom of God.
2 Cor. 13:4, Ephes. 1:19, Ephes. 6:10

C. JESUS DIED TO SAVE US THROUGH HIS BLOOD BATH
After he died to cleanse us from the stain of sin,
Titus 2:14 He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us
His very own people, totally committed to doing what is right.
1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to
cleanse us from every wrong.

D. JESUS IS NOW SEATED, IN HONOR, WITH GOD ALMIGHTY IN HEAVEN
he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God of heaven.
Matthew 26:64 Jesus replied, "Yes, it is as you say. And in the future you will see me,
the Son of Man, sitting at God's right hand in the place of power and coming
back on the clouds of heaven."
Mark 14:62 Jesus said, "I am, and you will see me, the Son of Man, sitting at God's right
hand in the place of power and coming back on the clouds of heaven."

III. JESUS IS GREATER THAN THE ANGELS
A. GOD HAS TOLD THE ANGELS OF CHRIST BEING HIS SON

[4] This shows that God's Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is far greater than their names. [5] For God never said to any angel what he said to Jesus:
"You are my Son. Today I have become your Father."
And again God said,
"I will be his Father, and he will be my Son."

B. WHEN CHRIST WAS BORN THE ANGELS WORSHIPPED HIM
[6] And then, when he presented his honored Son to the world, God said,
"Let all the angels of God worship him." [7] God calls his angels "messengers swift as the wind, and servants made of flaming fire."

IV. GOD SPOKE TO JESUS
[8] But to His Son he says,
A. YOUR THRONE IS FOREVER AND EVER "Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.
Luke 10:22 "My Father has given me authority over everything. No one really knows the Son except the Father, and no one really knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
Matthew 11:27 "My Father has given me authority over everything. No one really knows the Son except the Father, and no one really knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

B. YOUR POWER IS RIGHTEOUSNESS
Your royal power is expressed in righteousness.
John 16:8 And when he comes, he will convince the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
John 16:10 Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.
Romans 5:18 Yes, Adam's one sin brought condemnation upon everyone, but Christ's one act of righteousness makes all people right in God's sight and gives them life.
2 Tim. 4:8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness that the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that great day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his glorious return.

C. GOD'S LOVE FLOWS THROUGH CHRIST BUT GOD HATES WHAT IS WRONG
[9] You love what is right and hate what is wrong.
Matthew 18:7 "How terrible it will be for anyone who causes others to sin.
Temptation to do wrong is inevitable, but how terrible it will be for the person who does the tempting.
Luke 12:48 "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given.
Romans 2:14 Even when Gentiles, who do not have God's written law, instinctively follow what the law says, they show that in their hearts they know right from wrong.
Romans 2:18, Romans 7:21, Romans 13:10

D. GOD ANOINTS JESUS WITH OIL OF JOY MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you,
pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else."

[10] And,

E. JESUS WAS INVOLVED IN CREATION
"Lord, in the beginning you laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.

F. JESUS IS INVOLVED IN THE LAST DAYS
[11] Even they will perish, but you remain forever.
They will wear out like old clothing.
[12] You will roll them up like an old coat.
They will fade away like old clothing.

G. JESUS IS ETERNAL
But you are always the same;
you will never grow old."
