WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS
He was rich, educated, from Ireland and then moved to Canada. Twice his heart had been broken. His first bride drowned the night before they were to be married. Then years latter his second bride became sick and in a few weeks she died. Here was a lonesome man.
SING THE FIRST VERSE

To fill the void he served His Lord and Savior by helping the underprivileged, handicapped, and those without money. His friendship was free and reflected Jesus always.
SINGING THE SECOND VERSE

Read John 15:14-17 JESUS? FRIENDS
SING THE THIRD VERSE

WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS
This is an amazing story about a boy who at 5 years of age learned Latin. At 9 he learned Greek, and then at 11 French and finally at 12 he learned Hebrew. What a mind. But, that?s not all. He spoke poetically all the time. It was driving his father nuts so he told him to stop, and when he didn?t he spanked him. Believe it or not here is what he said while dad was spanking him;
?O father, do some pity take
And I will no more verses make.?
This isn?t the end of the story. This was the time in the church age when only the Psalms were sung. The leader would sing one line and then the congregation would sing it, and then on through the song one line after another. One day on the way home from church the young man said to his father, ?It?s time to change the way we sing in worship.? His father replied, ?Give us something better.?

Isaac Watts did and became known as the father of the hymn. Here are some that he wrote.
(You might sing one verse of 6 to 8.)
Joy To The World
Alas! And Did My Savior Bled?
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
At the Cross
We?re Marching To Zion
O God Our Help
Am I A Soldier
Many churches wouldn?t sing the hymns and they did not like Isaac Watts, but, GOD DID!
